Wintz Funeral Home Crofton, Nebraska

We offer pre planning, funerals and burials, memorial services, cremation, and grief support. Vivian and family, we are really sorry we were not able to be in Yankton for the funeral. It was beautiful and meaningful for us just to listen. Gary was a man of faith and words of encouragement to all that he touched. He shared his faith and love for Christ in a caring way. He taught me as a Pastor friend how to listen to those who were servants of Christ who did not have much of a voice in our society.

I served my apprenticeship at the Crosby, Kunold, Burkett Funeral Home in Omaha. On September 7, 1974 I married Carla Bruening. She graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1975 with a degree in Physical Therapy.

I wish I could be at the funeral to give you a big hug Vivian. I truly admired Gary and so enjoyed his sense of humor. We remember Gary from Waldorf College days and he went to LBI at the same time Elvin did. He was a man of faith then and so glad he was his whole life. It’s hard to know what to say during a difficult time like this, but hope you know you’re being thought about with special ❤️ love.

He had wonderful stories that he would tie into his sermons. I truly enjoyed him and thought he was a wonderful man. I regret learning from Kip Roozen of Gary’s death. As a neophyte pastor, I remember Gary’s warm collegiality, fun Bible studies, and Gary and congregation representatives waiting to wish me well on my last Sunday. We lived in Omaha together while she attended nursing school and upon her completion of the program in March 2018, we decided to move back to Hartington. Karly now works at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota and is continuing her education to become a Nurse Practitioner.

I have also served as a member of Sacred Heart Parish Council, Sacred Heart School Advisory Council, Knights of Columbus, and the Yankton Sertoma Club. The death of a loved often leaves us confused about what to do next, these resources can help. He touched so many lives and was so faith filled. He was instrumental in leading me to my faith. Always a joy to see Gary & Vivian around Watertown.

A licensed funeral director will assist you in making the proper funeral arrangements for your loved one. I am originally from Hartington, Nebraska and am the oldest son of Jim and Carla Wintz. I grew up right next door to the funeral home and so the funeral business has always been a part of my life. I was able to see the value and importance of our business and how much my dad and my uncle, Jerry helped people during such a difficult time. I wanted to do the same thing for people and that's why I decided to become a funeral director.
